Downtown Employee Survey

New restaurant: Bobbie’s Dairy Dip!
223 4th Avenue N. 615-770-2770. Bobbie’s menu features burgers, grilled cheese sandwiches, fries, milkshakes and more. Hours are Mon – Fri, 11 am – 4 pm and Sat, 11 am – 2 pm.
New restaurant: Jimmy John’s!
424 Church Street. 615-401-6015. This new quick-serve restaurant on the ground level of the Fifth Third Center serves sub sandwiches, club sandwiches, chips and more. Hours are Mon – Sat, 11 am – 7 pm and Sun, 11 am – 4 pm. They offer free delivery and the minimum order is only one sandwich.
New fitness center: Barry’s Bootcamp!
308 11th Avenue S. 615-457-1571. This new fitness center in The Gulch offers eight classes a day. Hours are Mon – Fri, 6 am – 2 pm and 5 pm – 8 pm; Sat, 7:30 am – 3 pm; and Sun, 10 am – 3 pm.

White Christmas

LOCATION: TPAC – TENNESSEE PERFORMING ARTS CENTER $15 – $60

The classic holiday tradition White Christmas is a brand new musical featuring Berlin hits like “Blue Skies,” “How Deep is the Ocean?” and the unforgettable title song. Irving Berlin’s White Christmas tells the story of two show biz buddies putting on a show in a magical Vermont inn and finding their perfect mates in the process. A merry and bright theatrical experience for the whole family!

Curator’s Perspective: “Carrie Mae Weems: Beyond Black and White”

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 15, 6:30 PM
LOCATION: FRIST CENTER FOR THE VISUAL ARTS FREE; FIRST COME, FIRST SEATED

Katie Delmez, organizing curator of the retrospective “Carrie Mae Weems: Three Decades of Photography and Video,” will trace the evolution of Weems’s artistic career since she first picked up a camera at the age of twenty-one and realized its potential as a tool for reform. Delmez will explore how Weems’s artistic practice addresses an array of issues.

America Recycles Day

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 15, 9 AM – 1 PM
LOCATION: FIFTH THIRD CENTER FREE

The Nashville Downtown Partnership and Sims Recycling Solutions are partnering to promote America Recycles Day. Items accepted at this electronics recycling collection include laptops, printers, speakers, keyboards, mice, PDAs, radios, stereos, MP3 players, DVD/CD players, VCRs, cell phones, CPUs, servers and hard drives. This event will be held in the plaza in front of Fifth Third Center.

Tootsies’ Birthday Block Party

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 15, 3 PM – 2 AM
LOCATION: TOOTSIES ORCHID LOUNGE FREE

Darryl Worley, Troy Gentry, Randy Houser and friends will perform and the concert will be emceed by Storme Warren. Celebrate Tootsies’ 52nd birthday at this annual block party. This concert will be held on Broadway in front of Tootsies Orchid Lounge. Please note: road closures are in place for this event! Broadway will be closed between 4th and 5th Avenues from noon on Wednesday, November 14 until 1 am Friday, November 16.

Musicians On Call’s 5th Anniversary Concert with Martina McBride

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 16, 8 PM – 11 PM
LOCATION: HARD ROCK CAFE $75+

Join musical icon Martina McBride for a rare performance celebrating Musicians On Call’s fifth year of service to the Nashville community. All proceeds will go directly to support the Nashville MOC branch, which brings live and recorded music to the bedsides of patients in healthcare facilities.

NCC Annual Champagne Tasting

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 16, 6 PM – 8 PM
LOCATION: NASHVILLE CITY CLUB $50 FOR UNCORKED MEMBERS; $60 GUESTS

Break out the bubbly at this event featuring champagne from around the world, provided by Lipman, Best Brands, Horizon & Alexseys. Each varietal will be paired with hors d’oeurves prepared by Executive Chef John Williams. Come enjoy live piano music, elegant food and the best view of the city!

Chair-ish the Night with Vince Gill & Friends

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 16, 6 PM
LOCATION: COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME AND MUSEUM $75+

The 4th Annual Benefit Concert for STARS Nashville. Enjoy a cocktail reception, silent auction and live art auction. At 8:45 pm the concert begins in the Ford Theater featuring Vince Gill and friends. STARSexists to serve schools and communities by providing prevention, intervention and treatment services addressing bullying, substance abuse, violence, and social and emotional barriers to success.

Jammin’ at Hippie Jack’s

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 16, 7:30 PM
LOCATION: TENNESSEE STATE MUSEUM FREE

Jammin’ at Hippie Jack’s Live at the Tennessee State Museum! is back for its fifth season. The public is invited to join the Tennessee State Museum Foundation for a free, musical showcase and TV taping on Friday evening, featuring acclaimed songwriters/entertainers Gretchen Peters and Beth Nielsen Chapman. Doors open at 7 pm and the performance begins at 7:30 pm.

Jazz on the Cumberland

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 18, 5 PM – 7 PM
LOCATION: CUMBERLAND PARK FREE

Enjoy live Jazz by trumpeter Imer Santiago. Live music will be performed in the park’s amphitheater.

 

Tokens: The Welcome Table

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 18, 7:30 PM
LOCATION: RYMAN AUDITORIUM $24.50 – $34.50

Featuring performances by Lee Camp, Dailey & Vincent, The McCrary Sisters, and Vince Gill. Also on stage, best-selling author Brian McLaren, The Nashville Choir, Buddy Greene, Brother Preacher, Charlie Strobel, Our Most Outstanding Horeb Mountain Boys, and the Tokens Radio Players. This performance will be filmed for national public television distribution. Proceeds benefit Room in the Inn.

2nd Annual Mayor’s Challenge 5K Walk/Run

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 18, 2 PM
LOCATION: PUBLIC SQUARE FREE

Join Mayor Karl Dean for his 2nd Annual5K (3.1 miles). Everyone is welcome to walk or run in this race, no matter their age or fitness level! This race is FREE, but advance registration is encouraged. Activities and registration begin at noon. The Kids’ Fun Run (ages 12 and younger, .75 miles) begins at 2 pm and the 5K begins at 2:15 pm. Participants are encouraged to arrive at least one hour before their start time. PLEASE NOTE: road closures are associated with this event! Click here for the route map. Roads will close as early as noon and re-open as late as 4 pm. Free parking for this event in LP Field Lot F. Also, Nashville MTA will provide free transportation on all buses for participants traveling to and from the 5K event.

Annual Thanksgiving Eve Eucharist

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 21, 7 PM – 9 PM
LOCATION: FIRST LUTHERAN CHURCH ELCA FREE

First Lutheran and Christ Church Cathedral’s annual joint Thanksgiving Eve Eucharist. Hearts in Motion, a Norwegian gospel choir, will perform. A reception will follow. Free parking provided in the parking lot at the corner of 8th Avenue S and McGavock.
