I always tell people to check their credit once a year, keep an eye on it. Many times you run into things on your credit that are errors or belong to someone else with the same name as you! Happened to my husband and was quite a headache to get it cleared up, but we did. And it was worth the trouble. It is your credit after all. You should try to keep it in good shape.

People looking to buy homes also need to know that any major purchases, such as a car, boat will also hit your credit against you. These sort of purchases need to be held off on, until after you are done with the home loan process.
